RE: Harvard physicist's take on the VMS - Jorge_Stolfi - 20-10-2026 By the way: people who grew up with the Latin alphabet generally do not realize how bad it is. It has too few letters, even for Latin or any Romance language. The symbols have no logic -- why does F look like E, or Q look like O; why you add a belly to change P into B, but not to change F into V, or T into D, or S into Z? Why does A need that horizontal bar? Why are the upper and lower case versions of the same letter so different? Why are some letters wider than others? Why is italic "a" different than Roman "a", and "g" different from "g"? Diacritics sort of make sense, but they force a bigger interline spacing to leave room for capitals PLUS diacritics... Those who claim that a constructed language would not copy features from existing ones mush agree that someone creating a new script for a language should NOT base it on the Latin alphabet... All the best, --stolfi RE: Harvard physicist's take on the VMS - Jorge_Stolfi - 20-10-2026 RE: Harvard physicist's take on the VMS - Jorge_Stolfi - 20-10-2026 RE: Harvard physicist's take on the VMS - RadioFM - 20-10-2026 RE: Harvard physicist's take on the VMS - nablator - 20-10-2026 RE: Harvard physicist's take on the VMS - Rafal - 20-10-2026 RE: Harvard physicist's take on the VMS - ololololo - 20-10-2026 RE: Harvard physicist's take on the VMS - ololololo - 20-10-2026 RE: Harvard physicist's take on the VMS - Jorge_Stolfi - 21-10-2026 RE: Harvard physicist's take on the VMS - Jorge_Stolfi - 21-10-2026 |
