Why I think that the copyist(s)/scribe(s) did not fully understand the material

It is possible that each scribe authored their own section. While unlikely in my opinion, it would make sense that the text for each thematic section was the work of one expert from start to finish.

Data analysis by both scribe and section may support this. Some aspects of the writing align more with scribe than with section. For some statistics, every herbal section is very close with maybe one outlier, for others they all vary wildly. Which suggests some kind of independent autonomy behind either the scribes or the original works.
