Register or Login to view.In Herbal A I measure a distance of 0.14 between 'ke' and 'pch' on the distribution of the preceding character, so they are indeed rather similar. On the distribution of the following character they fare worse: 0.34. [minimum possible value = 0, maximum = 1.414, for reference k/t stand 0.07/0.11 apart, ch/sh are at 0.21/0.08
I decided to check pche / ke , since pche seems to rise someone coeval with ke, and the same thing. Preceeding characters are somewhat close, but following characters are not.
What's more, the divergence between both the preceding AND the following characters increases from herbal A -> herbal b-> bio
This seems consistent with my theory, that P/K probably were equivalent in some 'archaic' voynich phase that is not represented in the manuscript, by the start of the MS they have already diverged, and this divergence only increases over the course of the MS.
No simple substitution or glyph sequence swap can turn a P word into a K word, because they have evolved in different asymmetric ways.
