I found a very interesting reference comparison.
The Codex Claromontanus is a copy of Romans and Ephesians in greek. It has both 5th century and two medieval copies. Apparently, the medieval scribes who copied it could not read greek. They reproduced the greek word by word, but made mistakes , including producing nonsense greek words. One of the scribes may have been able to sound out Greek, but sometimes wrongly, causing errors.
Since these are incredibly common bible verses, I also have copies of the same verses in both normal Latin, and abbreviated latin.
If i plot this in MDS, it allows us to directly compare what type of transformations are produced by meaningless copying errors, against intentional information preserving abbreviations.
In the case of the copying errors, each page with the bad copies are offset randomly from the original. In the case of the information preserving edits, all the offsets are in the same direction.
