The evolution of P/F vs T/K raises important questions

Register or Login to view. is presumably the cover page of Herbal; but we should not expect it to have similar statistics.  I would put it in an "Unk76r1" section by itself.

I think layfield and davis convincingly show that it is connected, simply by being a part of the bifolia, but sure, i don't think that is too critical for the purposes of this analysis.

A few follow-ups to your point.

The negative intercept does not indicate a “puff-free” beginning of the line.

X measures the total length of a line, not a position within that line. An intercept cannot tell us that puffs begin after the 10th or 25th glyph.

I checked their actual positions in first lines:
  • Herbal A: 65 of 136 begin with p/f.
  • Herbal B: 22 of 54 begin with p/f.
  • Stars: 152 of 243 begin with p/f.

Herbal B’s slope is steeper: 1.14 additional p/f occurrences/10 additional glyphs, versus 0.80 for Herbal A

This chart may be a better way of addressing this, its x-axis measures actual glyph position within a line. For this, I have restricted the data to clean first lines with at least 40 glyphs.

Weirdo glyphs:

removing every first line with unreadable words leaves the negative Herbal intercepts almost unchanged:
  • Herbal A: −0.85 -> −0.85
  • Herbal B: −2.45 -> −2.24

Some of your hypothesis about proposed exclusions hold, but some do not. The Herbal A and Stars ones work reasonably well, and the first-line associations weaken in Pharma and Bio.

But Bio’s whole-block association remains, while Herbal B weakens substantially under your proposed combined exclusions.
  • Bio total count vs words -> blocks over 150 words drops the Pearson correlation from .7 to .4, so there is a decline.
  • Bio: head count versus head length -> Heads under 25 glyphs and the nine-puff head pearson goes from 0.40-> 0.25
  • Herbal B: Triangles; blocks under 25 or over 70 words , pearson goes from 0.57 -> 0.25

The compact-Pharma point near 60 words and five puffs is f100r.22–27. 56 words and five occurrences. It is not f102v2.30–36. If you were referring to the crossfold-Pharma panel, its point at exactly 60 words and five puffs is f89v2.7–10.

Weak total-count correlation does not equate to little body use.

Head lines are strongly enriched, but Herbal B is not uniquely responsible for the higher body rates. Uncertain paragraph spacing could still affect these numbers.

So far, I'd agree these results support paragraph-position dependence, with differences among sections. However i don't think the broader questions are resolved.
