I was using the 1r and 8r multispectral images to help double check my page alignments and text boxes for the other alignment work I was doing and thought i would try to process these while i was working with the multispectral data. Compared to the published versions these seemed much clearer.
The key was recognizing that different parts of the text are visible under different wavelengths, specifically the pox leber and the end of the 17r, so these are composites that use different processing for those areas.
You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. uses just the 365 nm UV and 870 nm IR captures.
f116v’s grayscale detail comes from 21 captures. Its color comes specifically from three UV-illuminated captures through red, green, and blue filters.
Here are processing walkthrough images.
How did this image end up with the squiggly section removed though? As far as I can tell, it is present on every single MSI image (at least, in the ones where ink is visible).

The point is that when discussing these images we have to know exactly how the images have been altered in order to use them properly. If something is a glitch, a hallucination, a visual artifact or actually legitimate is the foundation of those discussions. If they are incorrect in some way, but noone challenges it or notices it, we end up in some world where noone knows what is real and what isn't.
