VViews,
In fairness, I think the problem is a common one when we have only the written word to go on. There's no special mark to tell the reader if a question is sincere, or sarcastic, and misunderstandings occur easily - and too often.
Let's maintain the default position of good-will unless attacks are constant and ad hominem.
Honestly, I often have the problem of having to invite others to follow a line of research which emerged in the course of my own - mainly because it touches on areas of speciality (comparative linguistics, for example, or cryptanalysis) which I would only be wasting others' time if I tried to pursue myself.
It is also common enough to have done the research which leads to an opinion, but it's not always as simple as a single reference, or even half-a-dozen that one can cite. I think R.Sale was excited by the thought that another person might find the topic so interesting, and didn't want to spoil all the fun. Truly. (here insert "this is not a sarcastic comment at all" emoticon).
Everything depends on the assumption of mutual good-will, don't you think? If that goes, any and every comment can probably be interpreted badly.
I've seen it' s loss, or termiting, poison more than one Voynich venue, to be honest.
