New member here. My name is John Reed and I have a Phd in physics. I became interested in the Voynich Manuscript about two months ago. It looked like an interesting problem. I read several of the articles on the Voynich website and found lots of interpretations. I finally found this paper by Fletcher Crowe. It was published in a journal and I assumed it had been reviewed. I started reading it. The first part, with the star in Pisces, looked convincing and seemed like a good starting point. I got to the section where the stars shown around Libra are named and then translated into Arabic names, supposedly proving the translation. Most of these stars are in a cluster, which looked correct. However, that cluster is located near the constellation Orion, while the constellation Libra is about 12 R.A. hours distant. That's halfway across the sky. These stars can't be the ones shown in Voynich page 72v, figure 13 in Crowe's paper. This exercise proves nothing.
I think that methods that use the entropy of the text might give useful results. Since we don't know the alphabet or the language this method, which is independent of these, gives some information.
