Dr. Stolfi, I was wondering what you saw as the function of the finished manuscript in the author's mind. Clearly it was not just a set of personal notes, or there would be little point in going through the expense of illuminating them. But they aren't immediately useful to anyone else. Do you think the idea was to use them to educate students with the author present to translate for them? That is the best use I can come up with, but I am mo expert on medieval education practices.
