People forget that grapes were also grown this way, or that wild vines grow in nature. I assume that certain trees provide protection from parasites such as aphids. Wine is an ingredient in many recipes. In fact, wild vines can grow into trees over many years. I don't think it's Brussels sprouts. It's a cultivated variety.
